MeatCheck reads what the label says. It does not test the product and is not medical advice.

Contact

MeatCheck is developed and operated by Learning Phase Labs Inc., a company incorporated in Ontario, Canada.

Write to contact@learningphaselabs.com. We usually answer within two business days. Include your iPhone model, your iOS version and the app version from Settings in the app, and a photo of the package if the question is about a scan.

A scan misread the label

Tap "Report this scan" on the verdict card. That sends us the reading and lets you attach the photo, which is how the checks get better. If you would rather send it by email, attach a clear photo of the front and the back of the package.

Things that fix most misreads: fill the frame with the label, turn the package to kill the glare, flatten the film over the print, and photograph the back panel separately from the front.

Manage or cancel a subscription

MeatCheck Pro is billed by Apple, so it is managed in your Apple Account, not in the app.

  • On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
  • Tap MeatCheck, then Cancel Subscription.
  • Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
  • To avoid being charged at the end of a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.

Restore a purchase

On a new phone, or after reinstalling, open the app, go to Settings and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account that bought the subscription. Family Sharing is supported if you enabled it for the purchase.

Refunds

Apple handles refunds for App Store purchases, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue one. Write to us anyway if something went wrong; we will fix the problem and support a refund request where it is warranted.

Delete your data

Your scans and settings live on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them. Analytics events are stored under a random install id; send us that id, which is shown at the bottom of the app's Settings screen, and we will delete the events for it. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Common questions

Does MeatCheck tell me whether meat is lab-grown?

No. It reports whether the words used for cell-cultivated meat appear on the label, and what your state's rules are. No app can tell cultivated from conventional meat from a photograph of the meat.

Do I need a barcode?

No. The app reads the printed label, so store-packed trays and butcher labels work the same as branded packages.

Does it work offline?

The Guide and your saved scans do. A new scan needs a connection, because the reading runs on our server.

Does it work outside the United States?

The app reads any English label, but the explanations are written against US federal and state rules, so they will be wrong for packages sold elsewhere.

What happens to my photos?

A scan photo goes to our server and on to an AI provider so the text can be read, and is not kept after the response comes back. The copy on your phone stays on your phone.

Can I use this to decide whether a food is safe for me?

No. Read the package itself, and speak to a qualified professional about an allergy or a medical condition.
